About us

We are a small group of activists in the D.C. area, united by the common goal of halting frontier AI development to prevent the creation of superintelligent AI, or AI broadly smarter than humans. We believe that superintelligent AI would carry an extreme risk of global catastrophe or human extinction.

We work with nationwide AI safety groups such as Stop The AI Race to coordinate advocacy efforts in the D.C. area. We also maintain a calendar of AI safety events in the area by many different organizations.

We have public video calls every Monday at 7:00 PM. Feel free to drop in to chat with us!

Why AI is dangerous

  • AI consists of artificial neural networks with trillions of connections that are created through an automated process. This process creates "black box" systems whose inner workings are inscrutable to humans, so nobody knows exactly how they will behave.
  • AI companies are racing to create superintelligent AI, systems that would outperform the smartist humans across a wide range of skills. Experts have warned for decades that superintelligent AI would be unpredictable and ultimately impossible to control.
  • Since the start of 2026, there have been increasingly frequent reports of AI escaping human control: Developing secret ways to communicate, working together to hack websites and attempting to cover their tracks.
  • On average, AI researchers believe there is an 18% chance of human extinction in the near future caused by rogue superintelligent AI.

What we can do about it

  • We're calling for a Global AI Treaty to stop frontier AI development, ensuring that smarter-than-human AI isn't built anywhere on Earth.
  • We can enforce this treaty by tracking the specialized computer chips that run AI, detecting giant AI training runs, and establishing mandatory reporting standards. We've made global treaties before: to limit nuclear weapons, fix the ozone layer, and more. We can repeat these successes with AI.
